Lamorna’s Beginner Flute Book “It’s not often that you find a flute tutor that qualifies as a ‘page-turner’ as well! ...” Repertoire for the Beginner Flautist “...all really worth while musically – attractive and memorable.” 99 Solos and Studies for Flute “...covers every stage of a flute player’s development from year one to the most advanced level. What a treasure-trove of items!" more..
Margaret Crawford Head of Winds, Australian National Academy of Music
“99 Solos and Studies has great pages, eliminating page turns, great readability, intelligent pedagogy, and inspiring, progressive challenges. The new-to-me celtic tunes found in the novice grades are simply gorgeous, and the combination of familiar and beautiful etudes that have been collected together are musically rewarding. The whole book is super-inspiring and head and shoulders above standard etude books. It's going to become my new ‘must have’ for all students.” more..

“Lamorna's Beginner Flute Book is a valuable teaching resource which develops a range of important musical skills such as memorisation, improvisation, as well as solo and ensemble playing. As the flute can be a physically challenging instrument to hold for young beginners, it's very pleasing to see a range of non-playing activities interspersed with playing, such as quizzes, games, and compositional exercises. The repertoire chosen is a well-balanced mix of folk songs, new tunes, and traditional classical melodies.”
Karen Lonsdale, Australian flutist, vocalist, researcher and music educator
“This lovely new collection encourages the development of flexible lips and lyrical playing from the earliest days. The flute parts work expressively as stand alone parts or with the addition of the attractive piano accompaniments. A much needed addition to the repertoire for the beginner flute.”
Melissa Hoile Sydney based, flautist, teacher and AMEB examiner.
"As a result of this recording, I think we stand to hear these works become part of the standard Australian flute repertoire, and that they will find their performances at HSC, tertiary level and the concert platform, both nationally and internationally." more...

Lamorna Nightingale has provided a much needed flute tutor book which is ideally suited to the growing number of beginner flute students playing in band programs. The challenges of playing concert band music in mostly flat keys on an instrument that is intrinsically oriented towards sharp keys is soundly addressed at a pedagogical level in Lamorna's Beginner Flute Book. Lamorna begins with the flute friendly notes of B, A and G, adds Bb and Eb at appropriate stages and seamlessly incorporates pieces with both sharp and flat key signatures. Lamorna's Beginner Flute Book has provided an invaluable bridge between traditional flute tuition and concert band repertoire. I am also thrilled with Fluteworthy's 99 Solos and Studies for Flute and look forward to seeing it as a standard text on syllabus lists.

Reviews for Starting Out. read more
- “This handbook for the beginning flute teacher is a “must have” reference book. I would thoroughly recommend it for not only the beginning flute teacher but for all flute teachers as there is so much useful and practical information.”
-“Every chapter concludes with Traps and Troubleshooting. This is certainly a fantastic inclusion in such a handbook as it offers ideas on how to go about fixing some of the problems that we as flute teachers encounter every day.”
Elizabeth Koch OAM ( Head of Woodwind & Performance, Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide)
-“I think I would be prepared to say that the book “Starting Out” is the best of its kind, but for one thing – it is the only one of its kind I have ever come across! It is not merely a book for beginner teachers, but a valuable resource for any flute teacher including those who have been teaching for years.”
-“I love its clarity, its commonsense, its scope and its wisdom….It is, in fact, a tutor for every tutor, not just for those who are “starting out”.
-“One feels eager at the prospect of starting a new chapter.”
Margaret Crawford (Head of Flute, Australian National Academy of Music, Melbourne)
-“I still remember the day I taught my first student….As I read Starting Out, I found myself wishing I had been given this pedagogical guide to read before teaching my first student”.
-“Drawing on decades of experience, Jude Huxtable and Jocelyn Fazzone clearly and simply walk you through the correct way to teach a new concept, followed by common problems and what to look out for.”
Lyndie Leviston (Australian Flute Festival Coordinator/Director)
-“At last a book dedicated to teachers! This is so rare and so needed. I have been searching for a book like this through all of my career!”
-“Posture, breathing, professional development, hand positions, group teaching, lesson planning are all discussed at length. This book should be on the University Syllabus”.
-“All flute teachers, young and old, will embrace this book with open arms!”
